About 70 people took part in the "Garden of Memory" action on Wednesday, which was held in Chennai, India. As the director of the Russian House in this South Indian city told TASSGennady Rogalev, the event dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow took place in Mangaleri Park.

"The action organized by the Russian House and volunteers of the Indian non-governmental environmental organization ExNoRa Foundation, was attended by former Indian military, veterans from the organization Colors of Glory ("Colors of Glory"), and compatriots living in Chennai. There are about 70 people in total," he saidGennady Rogalev. Among the guests of the action were the Mayor of Chennai, Ms. Rajan Priya, Consul General of Russia in ChennaiOleg Avdeev, he added.

In the Mangaleri Park, in memory of all the victims of Nazism during the Second World War, 25 seedlings of fruit trees were planted by the participants of the action, the agency interlocutor noted.

"It is very important to preserve the memory of the people who gave their lives in the fight against Nazism during the Second World War," the mayor saidRajan Priya.

"Unfortunately, in our time, the Nazi ideology is raising its head. And now there is a struggle for the elimination of Nazism again," he said in his speech.Oleg Avdeev.

The international action "Garden of Memory" was held for the first time in 2020. Its goal is to perpetuate the memory of everyone who died during the Great Patriotic War. In total — 27 million trees in memory of 27 million dead. The action is organized by the ANO "Garden of Memory", the All-Russian public movement "Volunteers of Victory" and the Victory Commanders Memorial Fund with the support of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, the Federal Forestry Agency within the framework of the national project "Ecology".
