The citywide pilaf festival was held in Dagestan Derbent. This was reported to TASS on Friday by the press service of the city hall.

"A citywide pilaf festival was held in Derbent today, organized by the Center for the development of tourism and folk art of the city," the agency interlocutor said.

According to him, the national types of pilaf were presented by Azerbaijani, Lezgian, Tat and Tabasaran Maidans.

"There are ten varieties in total, the eleventh this year was Spanish pilaf. This event is held to maximize the attraction of tourists. Show our guests our gastronomy, introduce them to it. Dagestan folk crafts, an art gallery, and theatrical farmsteads are also represented here," the press service added.

Derbent is one of the oldest cities in Russia and the world, located on the coast of the Caspian Sea, the celebration of the 2000th anniversary of the city took place on September 19, 2015. The settlement on this territory existed more than 5 thousand years ago. One of the most famous sights of the city is the citadel of Naryn-kala.
