The partial collapse of the wall of the Derbent fortress at the gates of Orta-Kapa occurred on the night of November 16-17, 2020 due to the wetting of the historical masonry after prolonged torrential rains.

The contractor will be determined based on the results of an open tender in electronic form. <...> It is expected that the restoration work will be completed by December 2025," the report says.

Derbent is located on the coast of the Caspian Sea, in 2015 it celebrated its 2000th anniversary. The settlement on this territory existed more than 5 thousand years ago. In 2003, UNESCO added the citadel of Naryn-Kala, an ancient city, including the eighth-century Juma Mosque and the fortifications of Derbent, to the World Heritage List as outstanding monuments of the Sasanian Empire and subsequent cultures.
