The monument "Arkadag" ("Patron") in honor of the national leader of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was erected in the central park of the new administrative center of the Akhal Velayat (region), the city of Arkadag. This was reported on Friday by the publication "Neutral Turkmenistan".
"The total height of the monument is 43 meters. An 11-meter sculpture in honor of the national leader of the Turkmen people is located on a column decorated with wheat ears," the publication clarifies. The column is supported by four rhytons. At the base of the monument there is a fountain with a diameter of 65 m .
According to the publication, the author of the monument was the People's Artist of Turkmenistan Saragt Babayev, who previously designed the equestrian monument "Arkadag" depicting Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov riding an Akhal-Teke horse. It is made of bronze with a 24-carat gold leaf coating and was opened in the center of Ashgabat in 2015.
The ex-president of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has held the title Arkadag since 2010. On January 21, 2023, President of the Republic Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a constitutional law declaring the former president the national leader of the country.
The construction of a new administrative center of the Akhal Velayat on the initiative of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has been underway since 2019, 30 km from the capital of Turkmenistan. At the end of last year, the city was named Arkadag. The new city should become another major business and investment center of the country, its construction is carried out using advanced construction and digital technologies.
