According to Alexander Khomutov, Deputy head of the Department of Forests of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the region, the ratio of the area of reforestation and the area of felled and dead forest stands at the end of this year was 122%.

The young forest was planted on an area of 7.7 thousand hectares in the Altai Territory in 2022, which is almost a quarter more in relation to the forests that were cut down and died in fires. This was reported to TASS by Alexander Khomutov, Deputy head of the Department of Forests of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the region.

"The task of the Forest Conservation project is to ensure the balance of forest disposal and reproduction at the level of 100%. We had plans for reforestation on an area of 7.2 thousand hectares. As a result of the project implementation in 2022, reforestation was carried out on 7.7 thousand hectares, including on forest plots. The ratio of the area of reforestation and the area of felled and dead forest stands by the end of 2022 was 122%," Alexander Khomutov said.

He noted that the bulk of forest planting is carried out in the southwestern part of the ribbon forests, where there are significant areas of harem after the fires of 1997 and 1999.

"For the implementation of the project in 2022-2023, the allocation of 257.5 million rubles from the federal budget is provided. Of these, 133.2 million rubles are planned to be allocated to increase the area of reforestation, including 63.6 million rubles in 2023. In addition, financing of equipping with forest fire and forestry equipment is provided - 123.8 million rubles. This year, a stock of seeds for reforestation was formed for 43.7 million rubles," Alexander Khomutov stressed.

In total, during the implementation of the project "Forest Conservation", 98 units of fire-fighting equipment, 19 units of forestry equipment and 1,264 units of various special equipment were received in the region. According to Khomutov, this has a positive effect on the quality of forest planting and fire extinguishing. The created stock of seeds in the amount of 3.5 tons will be enough for sowing in the nursery for 3-4 years.

In the Altai Territory, about 28% of the area is occupied by forest ecosystems, which are characterized by a great variety in the composition of rocks. As a result of large forest fires in 1997 and 1999, significant damage was caused to the southern part of the ribbon forests, which belong to the arid steppe.
