Uzbekistan has created a plant-based drug for coronavirus.

The Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan has created, together with Chinese partners, a plant-based drug for coronavirus "Rutan". The press service of the academy reported this on Tuesday.

According to her, the drug based on the plant Rhus coriaria Tatum (tanning sumac) is absolutely safe and "is an effective antioxidant and antihypoxant." The press service added that it increases the patient's resistance to oxygen deficiency. According to the statement, as a result of additional studies carried out jointly with scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, it was found that the drug suppresses "two vital enzyme systems of the virus and prevents the development of a cytokine storm."

Clinical studies of the drug, according to the Uzbek Academy , was carried out on the basis of the largest specialized hospital in the republic in Zangiota (Tashkent region). As a result of these checks, the drug was approved for use in moderately severe coronavirus disease and pneumonia with lung damage up to 30%, as well as in all strains of influenza. from the first hours of administration, and then inhibits the formation of pathogenic proteins of the virus, thereby preventing the disease from developing and ensuring a quick recovery without noticeable complications.

Currently, the press service added, the production of the new drug has already been a joint venture between China-Uzbekistan Medicine Technical Park and Radiks.
