President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also ordered to intensify preventive measures.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that not a single case of coronavirus infection had been detected in the country and instructed to “activate preventive measures”. This was reported by the Turkmen state news agency TDH.

“Now we can say that as a result of such large-scale work, no cases of coronavirus infection have been detected in Turkmenistan. But we must not relax, because today new strains of this dangerous infection, in particular “omicron”, are emerging in many countries. The ways of its distribution from one country to another are known. This happens by moving people and goods across state borders,” the Turkmen leader said on Tuesday at a meeting with the Secretary of the State Security Council, Deputy Chairman of the State Commission for Emergency Situations and heads of customs and migration services.

As specified in the agency, at the meeting considered steps to prevent the importation of coronavirus, in particular the omicron strain, into Turkmenistan "through people and goods crossing the border of the country", after which Gurbanguly  Berdimuhamedovgave the members of the State Security Council "a number of specific instructions to intensify ongoing preventive measures."

Turkmenistan remains the only state in the post-Soviet space where not a single case of coronavirus infection has been officially recorded. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the authorities of the republic have introduced severe restrictions on entry and international air travel, as well as a mask regime. In early July, the country launched a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination campaign for all residents over the age of 18. For this, the Russian vaccines Sputnik V and Epivaccorona, as well as the Chinese drug CoronaVac, are used.
