In Syria, by 2023, the largest sports complex, which housed a refugee camp, will be reconstructed.

The Syrian authorities intend to complete the reconstruction of one of the largest         refugees. The director of the center, Ayham Tuhelya, told reporters about this.

“Reconstruction is carried out at the expense of [funds] from the state budget. The state has signed a contract with contractors, each facility is assigned a firm that is responsible for quality and repair time. All workers are professionals. In two years, we expect to fully complete the reconstruction of the sports complex and hope that it will operate at full capacity, as as before the war,  said Tuhelya.

Latakia's main football arena has already been restored. Now the reconstruction of the sports and concert hall is underway, where before the war they held competitions in boxing, volleyball, basketball and other sports, and also organized the cultural festival "Love and Peace" with concert programs. The territory of the park is being landscaped, where an alley of Syrian-Russian friendship has been planted.

The director of the sports complex said that during the war, refugees from Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor were placed on areas for sports games, all the flooring came to  ; worthlessness. “The sports complex covers an area of 156 hectares and is one of the largest in Middle East. 56 hectares - the area of indoor premises, 100 hectares - structures in the open. We we have the main football arena for 45 k. fans and a training stadium, three indoor sports halls for basketball, handball and volleyball, two multifunctional halls for Olympic disciplines, four swimming pools, one of them of the Olympic format. I don not talk about the hippodrome and four tennis courts,  - said Tuhelya.

The Hafez al-Assad Sports Center - the father of the current Syrian President Bashar al-Assad - was built in 1987 and became the site for the X Mediterranean Games . From 2012 to 2017, the sports complex functioned as a refugee camp, there was a large tent city, some people were accommodated in gyms. In 2018, the state allocated the necessary funds for a large-scale repair program, which also includes the creation of a recreational area, the construction of a new tourist complex and the demolition of the old hotel.

The Syrian authorities are implementing a program to restore the infrastructure of the territories affected by the fighting in the provinces of Aleppo, Damascus and Hama, so that upon return, the refugees could live in  ;normal conditions. The Russian Center for Reconciliation of Warring Parties (CPVS), in turn, assists in this work, and also in transportation of refugees.
