The Cabinet approved a project to allocate funds for the construction of facilities for the Universiade-2023.


The Government of the Russian Federation has approved a project to allocate funds for the construction of facilities for the 2023 World University Summer Games in Yekaterinburg. This is stated in a message circulated on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers on Saturday.

“On the targeted (per object) distribution of subsidies provided in 2021–2023 from the federal budget to the budget of the Sverdlovsk Region in order to co-finance the spending obligations of the Sverdlovsk Region arising from construction of capital construction facilities included in the preparation program for the XXXII World Summer Universiade 2023 in Yekaterinburg. To adopt a draft order of the government of the Russian Federation on this issue,” the message says following the government meeting on April 15.

The World Student Games will be held in Yekaterinburg from August 8 to 19, 2023. The competitive program includes competitions in 18 sports, during which 246 sets of medals will be awarded.

The decision to hold the Universiade in Yekaterinburg was made on July 2, 2019 by the Executive Committee of the International University Sports Federation (FISU). Russia will host the Summer Universiade for the second time, the previous time the competition was held in Kazan in 2013, in addition, Moscow hosted the Summer Universiade in 1973. In 2019, Krasnoyarsk was the capital of the Winter Universiade.
