The anniversary of the classic of Kazakh literature was celebrated in Semey

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev unveiled a monument to Kazakh poet Abai Kunanbayev in honor of his 175th birthday.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during his working trip to the city of Semey in the east of the republic, took part in the opening ceremony of the monument to the Kazakh poet and public figure Abai Kunanbayev, whose 175th birthday is celebrated this year. This was announced on Thursday by the press service of the head of state.

“Great Abay is not only the pride of our country, but and a genius on a global scale. This is a person who was able to comprehend the entire depth of the spiritual world of the Kazakh people. His poems and words of edification deeply reflect our national existence. Abai, who is the founder of our modern literature, left a bright mark in the history of the country. His works have not lost their relevance for more than a century. They continue to serve as spiritual food for all of us,” said the President at the unveiling ceremony of the monument. Abay is depicted with his sons Akylbay and Turagul.

Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev noted that special importance was attached to the celebration of the 175th anniversary of Abai this year. In addition, the President recalled that large-scale events were held in Kazakhstan and abroad which celebrated the legacy of the poet, and the younger generation was introduced to his work. “During the jubilee, we did allow no extravagance. I think that this is one of ways to get rid of          & The legacy of the great thinker is an invaluable asset that opens the way to the further prosperity of our country,” the head of state added.

August 10 marked the 175th birthday of Abai Kunanbaev (1845-1904), a Kazakh poet, composer, educator and public figure. He is considered the founder of Kazakh literature and its first classic. He also contributed to the spread of Russian and European culture among the Kazakhs. This year in Kazakhstan established a new holiday - Abai Day, which is celebrated on 10 August.
