Taiwan completes preparations for AstraZeneca vaccination program.

Taiwan is completing preparations for a coronavirus vaccination program and will soon announce a specific start date. This was reported by the Taipei Times newspaper on Saturday, citing health authorities.

The first batch of the drug produced by the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca ("AstraZeneca") in the amount of 117,000 doses arrived on the island on March 3. Taiwanese doctors have already completed six of the seven necessary tests to assess the safety of the vaccine. The last check is planned to be completed next Wednesday, after which the timing of vaccination will be announced. Priority in this program will be given to healthcare workers.

In total, the island authorities intended to purchase 10 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines, more than 5 million doses of Moderna (Moderna) and another 4.76 million doses of a number of other vaccines through the COVAX program (“Covax”).

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Taiwan, which is considered one of the provinces of China, but has been governed by its own administration since 1949, has had one of the lowest rates of COVID-19 in the world (a disease caused by the coronavirus).
