Syrian health minister launches vaccination campaign

Vaccination against COVID-19 in Syria will begin next week with health workers.

Syrian Health Minister Hassan al-Ghabashofficially announced on Thursday that a campaign to vaccinate the population against the coronavirus will begin next week. He announced this at a press conference in Damascus, SANA reported.

“Vaccination against COVID-19 in Syria starts next week and will begin with those who are on the front line of the fight against the pandemic — medical workers and members and families,” the minister said.

According to him, vaccines against coronavirus were provided to Syria by a “friendly power”. “After the receipt of the drugs, the President of the RepublicBashar al-Assadordered the start of vaccination,” al-Gabash emphasized.

On Wednesday, Aleppo Health Director Ziyad Haj Taha told the Al-Watan newspaper that the medical staff would be vaccinated against the coronavirus with a vaccine from the Chinese corporation Sinopharm (Sinopharm).

On February 22, the Syrian authorities registered the Russian vaccine against the Sputnik V coronavirus and allowed its use in the country, as reported by the Syrian Embassy in Moscow.
