The Consulate General in Shanghai expects the restoration of the attractiveness of the Russian Federation for Chinese tourists.
The Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Shanghai believes that after the abolition of anti-weed restrictions, the Russian destination will again become one of the most popular for tourists from China. This was announced by Consul General Dmitry Lukyantsev in an interview with TASS on Wednesday.
"We expect that after the lifting of restrictions, the Russian destination will again become one of the most attractive and in demand for tourists from Eastern China.
Since February 6, the PRC has resumed tourist trips for organized groups of Chinese citizens to 20 countries, including Russia, in a test mode. This can only be welcomed, because the potential of our country in this area is almost limitless. At the same time, group tourist trips between our countries are carried out within the framework of the provisions of the relevant bilateral intergovernmental agreement and do not require visa processing at the consular offices of Russia and China," the diplomat said.
Lukyantsev recalled that in the pre-pandemic 2019, the share of guests from The share of China in the Russian segment of inbound tourism was more than 50%. In the same year and several years earlier, the number of visas issued by the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Shanghai to Chinese citizens reached about 80-90 thousand per year, about half of them were tourist visas. "It is clear that over the past three years, the number of issued visas has decreased significantly. Now a lot of attention is being paid to this issue at all levels and extensive expectations are associated with its solution," the Consul General said. He also said that in January of this year there was a trend of an increase in the number of visas issued.
As the diplomat noted, since January, the number of applications of Chinese citizens for Russian business and work visas has also increased. "Most often, representatives of medium and large enterprises who have already established business contacts with Russian partners, who have been planning a trip to Russia for a long time, come to us. Russia, but were deprived of such an opportunity. Another category of Chinese entrepreneurs is going to Russia in order to find and establish commercial ties, attend exhibitions, conferences, forums and other events," Lukyantsev said.
