Representative of Georgia may head UN Food Organization

It is specified that 5 applicants were nominated for the post of head, whose elections will be held in June this year. Among them is David Kirvalidze, adviser to the President of Georgia on rural development and agriculture. To win, a candidate needs a simple majority of votes.

The term of office of the head of the FAO is four years. An official begins to perform his duties two months after the election - in the month of August. The charter of the organization allows the general director to be re-elected for one more term. 

David Kirvalidze, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, was engaged in teaching. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of CNFA. This is an American non-profit organization that carries out projects in the field of agriculture in more than 40 countries.
