Railway communication between Russia and Kyrgyzstan will resume

The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan announced an agreement to resume railway communication with the Russian Federation.


Railway passenger traffic between Kyrgyzstan and Russia will resume from 21 February. The agreement on this was reached during the first meeting of the Kyrgyz-Kazakhstan working group on trade and economic cooperation, which took place on Wednesday in Almaty, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan reported.


“An agreement was reached on resuming from February 21, 2022, regular passenger transportation by rail through the territory of Kazakhstan from Kyrgyz Republic to Russian Federation. For all passengers, it will be mandatory to have a test for  COVID-19, selected not earlier than 72 hours at the moment of crossing the state border of Kazakhstan, or a certificate of vaccination with using the application “I travel without COVID-19”,  message.


Passenger rail service between Kyrgyzstan and Russia was interrupted in the spring of 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.


Bishkek and Moscow after that have repeatedly expressed their readiness to restore regular passenger flights, but could not do this because of the position of the Kazakh side.


Trains from Kyrgyzstan to Russia can run only through the territory of Kazakhstan.
