Production of Sputnik V in Kazakhstan is gaining momentum

Over 5 million doses of Sputnik V have been produced in Kazakhstan in six months.

Vaccination against coronavirus infection began in Kazakhstan on February 1. At the first stage, residents of the republic were vaccinated with the Sputnik V drug produced in Russia, and at the end of the same month, shipments to the regions of the Russian vaccine produced on the basis of the Karaganda Pharmaceutical Complex (KPC) began. Now over 5 million doses have already been produced there, and by the end of the year they plan to significantly increase this figure.

TASS in the press service of the enterprise, the organization of the release of "Sputnik V" in Karaganda was technically difficult. “In a short period of time, we have organized a cold chain for storing and transporting the vaccine at a temperature of minus 18 degrees Celsius. We have carried out the necessary work to validate the process and qualify the equipment necessary for operation,” KFK explained.

In addition, the pharmaceutical complex announced a competitive recruitment and formed a professional team of 30 new employees for the timely preparation of the vaccine. At the same time, the press service noted that due to the urgent need for operational adjustment of the production of the drug, the transfer and registration of the product were carried out in an unprecedentedly short time - less than two months. “We are very grateful to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan for providing support in accelerating the registration and certification processes at all levels,” the enterprise noted. vaccines "Sputnik V", and by the end of the year it is planned to produce another 2 million doses of the drug. “On July 28, we signed an agreement on the supply of an additional 2 million doses of a two-component vaccine with a single distributor of the Republic of Kazakhstan, SK-Pharmacy. We are ready to continue production of such a significant and necessary drug for the needs of the population of our country even after the completion of the contract,” the press service of the pharmaceutical complex emphasized.

In early April, the president of Kazakhstan was vaccinated with the Sputnik V vaccine produced in Karaganda >Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and in June the first head of state Nursultan Nazarbayev was vaccinated with the same drug. According to the top leadership of the country, only vaccination and the formation of herd immunity will make it possible to defeat the coronavirus, remove all restrictions, and ensure the restoration of the normal life of citizens and economic activity.

Plans for the future

On July 15, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) announced that the Kazakh Ministry of Health had registered the Sputnik Light vaccine. Later, the President of the country instructed to work out the issue of its supply and release in the republic. “We sent a corresponding request to the RDIF and are awaiting a response. For our part, we are ready for the production of Sputnik Light at the production facilities of our company. Modern equipment, qualified personnel and technological capabilities of our plant allow us to produce antiviral drugs of any complexity,” the KFK press service said, answering the question whether the possibility of producing the Sputnik Light vaccine on the basis of this enterprise is currently being considered.

In turn, the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan corr. TASS explained that temporary registration certificates for a period of eight months were issued to several Russian manufacturers of Sputnik Light. Currently, the possibility of deliveries is being studied with them.

Vaccination process

In addition to Sputnik V, vaccination with the local drug QazVac began in Kazakhstan on April 26. At the end of April, the National Welfare Fund Samruk-Kazyna purchased 1 million doses of the Hayat-Vax vaccine from the Chinese company Sinopharm. In early June, the republic received the first batch of the CoronaVac vaccine manufactured by the Chinese Sinovac Biotech in the amount of 500 thousand doses.

At the moment, more than 5.8 million inhabitants. Of these, 4.4 million were fully vaccinated.
