Pakistan approves emergency use of Sputnik V

The government of Pakistan has decided to allow emergency use of the Russian vaccine against coronavirus infection Sputnik V in the country. 

Pakistani newspaper Dawn  reported on Sunday, citing government sources.

“At a meeting held by the Registration Board of the Pakistan Medicines Regulatory Authority, another vaccine was also approved for emergency use, which was developed with the support of the Russian Investment Development Fund, - quotes the edition of the words of the source. “The Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine is the third approved for emergency use in the country.”

On Tuesday, the Pakistani Ministry of Health authorized the country's emergency use of a coronavirus vaccine manufactured by Chinese pharmaceutical corporation Sinopharm. The authorities also allowed the use of a drug developed by the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca & nbsp; and the University of Oxford. On August 11, 2020, Russia was the first in the world to register a vaccine against coronavirus, called Sputnik V.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, about 529 thousand cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded in Pakistan.
