The overhaul of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Damascus will be completed by October 2022, project manager Vladimir Sokolov told reporters. The building needs to be replaced with an electrical and water supply system, roofing and waterproofing.

“We plan to hand over the object in October 2022. For now, we are on schedule and will do our best to stay there. The task is important, the object is also not simple in its own way, because it will be the face of our country,” saidVladimir Sokolov.

According to him, a Soviet building built in the last century, operating since 1975, never seriously repaired. During the war in Syria, his work was suspended. When the management of the center resumed holding cultural and social events in March 2020, it became clear that the building needed serious repairs.

According to the center's workers, it is not easy to make major repairs in Syria at the moment due to economic sanctions. Especially difficult with some scarce building materials. Some of them have to be brought from Russia. Nevertheless, in the Russian House of Damascus, Syrian children continue to learn Russian language and dance.

Repairs are being carried out by order of Rossotrudnichestvo.
