Over 400 million coronavirus shots completed in India

Over 400 million doses of coronavirus vaccine have been administered in India.

Coronavirus vaccination coverage in India crossed the 400 million mark over the weekend. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reports on its website that the total number of doses administered as of Monday morning was 406,481,493. On Saturday, 5,101,567 doses of the vaccine were administered and 1,363,123 doses on Sunday.

At the same time, the number of Indians who received both doses of the drug is more than 83 million people. The authorities note that citizens are lagging behind in obtaining a second vaccine.

Thus, more than 40% of Indians over 18 years of age have received at least one dose of the vaccine: in general, the population of the country is more than 1.3 billion people, while about 470 million Indians under the age of 18. So far, vaccination is available to persons over the age of 18.

According to the Ministry of Health of India, over the past 24 hours, 38,164 new cases of coronavirus infection and 499 deaths associated with this disease have been registered in the country. The total number of people infected during the epidemic in the country reached 31,144,229, the number of deaths was 414,108. the Serum Institute, the Covaxin drug manufactured by the Indian company Bharat Biotech, as well as the Russian vaccine Sputnik V. As previously reported by the Ministry of Health, eight vaccines are ready in the country, three of which are already approved for use, two more are in the early stages of clinical trials, and three more are in the late stages of clinical trials.
