The celebration of the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity took place in the Cypriot city of Limassol.
Residents of Cyprus celebrated on Friday evening the Russian public holiday Day of Family, Love and Fidelity. As the correspondent of TASS reported in the Russian House in Cyprus, the main place of the celebrations, held with the support of Rossotrudnichestvo and the Limassol City Hall, was the embankment of this city, the organizers of the celebrations were organizations of Russian compatriots of Cyprus.
According to the information of the Russian House, "game zones, a festive fair, master classes were deployed on the embankment," and animators were engaged with children. There was also a concert and a solemn part, which opened with a video message from the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Anna Kuznetsova. In it, the Vice Speaker supported the public initiative of uniting around traditional family values. "It is caring for each other that makes us strong, united, ready to unite when it comes to protecting our state interests, our families and our children," she stressed.
The participants of the action gathered in Limassol also spoke in support of the preservation of family values, noting the leading role of Russia as a guarantor of the inviolability of the institution of the family.
The Russian House also reported that Cypriot activists have created a new symbol of the holiday — a daisy, the petals of which were painted in the colors of the flag of Russia. Flags with this symbol could be seen everywhere on the embankment.
The Day of Family, Love and Fidelity has been celebrated in Russia since 2008. The idea of the holiday originated with residents of the city of Murom, Vladimir region, where the relics of the holy spouses Peter and Fevronia, patrons of Christian marriage, whose memorial day is July 8, rest. This year the holiday became official, the corresponding decree was signed by the President of RussiaVladimir Putin.
