The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has officially announced that the first day of fasting this year will be May 17. In many regions - North Africa, the Middle East, East and Southeast Asia - it starts on the same day as Riyadh.

The duration of fasting (sauma) is calculated according to the lunar calendar and is 29 or 30 days. At this time, you can start eating only at night after the evening prayer. The morning meal should end no later than half an hour before dawn. During daylight hours, a faithful Muslim has no right to eat or drink. Even smoking is forbidden.

The main attention should be paid to prayer and good deeds: giving alms, helping the destitute and infirm, visiting the sick and prisoners. It is believed that for every good deed done during fasting, Allah rewards the believer.

According to Islamic tradition, the night of the 27th of Ramadan (about 10 days before the end of the fast), which this year falls from June 11, has a special meaning. At this time, called the night of predestination, the Almighty decides the fate of each believer.
