Russia was the first to apply for the right to host the World Expo 2030 in Moscow.

The official letter, signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, has been submitted to the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE). Now, according to BIE rules, other applicants need to send applications no later than October 29, 2021. This was reported by the press service of the Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovative Development of Moscow, citing the words of Moscow Deputy Mayor Natalia Sergunina.

Thus, the theme of the event was chosen by the Russian capital as “The Progress of Mankind. Shared vision for the World of Harmony" (Human Progress. Shared vision for the World of Harmony). If the application is approved, the World Universal Exhibition will be held in Moscow from April 27 to October 27, 2030. The voting within the BIE General Assembly, following which the winner city will be announced, will take place in 2023.

“The Russian capital has sufficient resources to ensure that the world exhibition is held at the highest level. Traditionally, this event brings together more than 100 participating countries and millions of visitors from all over the world, so investments in its organization pay off in full. And besides, additional jobs will be created at the stage of preparation for the Expo,” said Natalya Sergunina, Deputy Mayor of the capital.

According to her Moscow can offer participants and guests of Expo 2030 a unique cultural, educational and event program.

"Another significant advantage of the city is its leading position in the field of modern technologies," added Natalia Sergunina.

“In recent years, Moscow has created a developed and competitive infrastructure for the development and implementation of new technologies. More than 130,000 technology companies operate in the city. International experts have repeatedly noted the capital's digital ecosystem. Our city is ideal for demonstrating scientific and technological achievements in various fields,” the deputy mayor said.

The World Universal Exhibition is the largest international exposition uniting achievements in science, technology, architecture and art. It has been held every five years since 1851 and is open to the public for six months. The legacy of such exhibitions are, for example, the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the National Palace in Barcelona.
