More than a million Turks vaccinated with Chinese vaccine

More than a million people in Turkey have been vaccinated against COVID-19 with the CoronaVac vaccine developed by the Chinese biopharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech. 

This was announced by the Turkish Ministry of Health.

The Turkish Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices on January 13 gave approval for the emergency use of CoronaVac in the country. On the same day, the Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca was vaccinated live on Turkish television.

The next day, January 14, widespread vaccination began in Turkey. First of all, the CoronaVac vaccine began to vaccinate medical personnel. Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was vaccinated with the Chinese vaccine in the evening of the same day in Ankara.

Since January 19, the country has started vaccinating the elderly, the disabled and service personnel working in nursing homes and rehabilitation centers. People over 90 receive their vaccinations at home.

In early January, Minister of Health Fahrettin Kocasaid that Turkey had signed a contract to purchase 50 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from Sinovac Biotech, adding that vaccine doses would be delivered to Turkey in batches . The first 3 million doses were delivered to Ankara on December 30 last year.

Preliminary test results show that the effectiveness of the Chinese drug has reached 91.25%.
