Ministry of Health of Georgia to start vaccination with Chinese drug Sinopharm

In Georgia, vaccination against coronavirus with Sinopharm will begin in May.


The Ministry of Health of Georgia decided to open registration for people wishing to be vaccinated against coronavirus with the Chinese drug Sinopharm (Sinopharm) from April 27, and the vaccination itself will begin in early May. Tamar Gabunia, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Health of the Republic, announced this on Friday at a briefing after a meeting of the vaccination council.

“On the recommendation of the council, within the next week, the Ministry of Health, the Center for Disease Control and a group of experts will finalize the protocol and detailed recommendations needed for the introduction of the Sinopharm vaccine in the country. Registration for Sinopharm will open from April 27,” Tamar Gabunia said, adding that the vaccination process will begin in May.

On April 3, Georgia received 100,000 doses of the Chinese Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine. The Republic is also expecting 100,000 doses of the Sinovac vaccine to arrive. This drug will be donated by the Chinese side free of charge.

Vaccination in Georgia has been carried out since March 15. To date, citizens of the republic are vaccinated with two drugs - AstraZeneca ("AstraZeneca") and Pfizer ("Pfizer"). According to the latest data, more than 26 thousand people have been vaccinated in the country.
