China has not yet detected local infections with a new variant of the omicron strain COVID-19

There have not yet been local infections in China with "ortrus" – a new type of COVID-19. The health authorities of the People's Republic of China recorded only the entry of 24 carriers of infection into the country. Such data was shared by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. "Ortrus" was called a new variant of omicron, a strain of coronavirus that eludes the immune response better than its predecessors.

Chinese doctor shared three years of experience in fighting the pandemic

Chinese medical workers have long remembered the Spring 2020 Holiday. Then more than 42 thousand doctors from all over the country came to Hubei province to contain the outbreak of coronavirus. Lu Xiang is one of them. Now he is confident of success even in the treatment of severe complications from COVID-19 in a patient who is 101 years old. It's difficult, but it's quite real. Three years ago it was completely different.

Lu Xiang, Doctor at Sir Ran Ran Shaw Hospital of Nanjing Medical University: "There were completely different moods at that time.
We are faced with a new infectious disease, and with a high level of transmissivity. Quite a lot of medical workers were infected, and the condition of the patients was very severe. We had problems even with the diagnosis of the disease, not to mention the treatment."

In 2020, Lu Xiang led a group of 300 specialists who came from Jiangsu Province to help residents of Huangshi City District. It was a period of uncertainty: doctors had to study the behavior of the virus on the spot and at the same time save seriously ill patients.

Zhao Wei, Director of Sir Ran Ran Shaw Hospital, Nanjing Medical University: "It was dangerous.
People knew that infection leads to to serious consequences, but they didn't have clear information about the virus."

Doctors gradually learned more about the new infection and refined the treatment regimens. Based on these data, the State Committee for Health Affairs of the People's Republic of China regularly updated official recommendations for the treatment of COVID-19. As a result, the personal experience of specialists such as Lu Xiang formed the basis of techniques that in the future served as a guide for doctors throughout China.

The outbreak in Hubei Province was contained in less than three months, but the coronavirus continued to mutate and spread across the planet. While working in the regions, Lu Xiang noticed that in most cases, new variants of COVID-19 became more contagious, but less dangerous to health.

Lu Xiang, Doctor at Sir Ran Ran Shaw Hospital of Nanjing Medical University: "We found that hospitals in Shanghai and Tibet had few critically ill patients and a lower mortality rate.
Then we realized: perhaps soon the country will ease restrictions, and infected people will not need to be quarantined in specially designated hospitals."

Since November last year, China has really begun to soften measures to combat the coronavirus. The authorities said that the prevention and control of the pandemic has entered a new phase. The main task was to reduce the number of severe cases.

Lu Xiang, Doctor at Sir Ran Ran Shaw Hospital of Nanjing Medical University: "Last December, the provincial health commission asked how many more beds for severe patients we plan to add.
We asked for 28 pieces. The next day, we were allocated 16 million yuan to purchase everything we needed. It helped us a lot."

Lu Xiang says: the first days of the pandemic were really difficult and tragic.

Lu Xiang, Doctor at Sir Ran Ran Shaw Hospital of Nanjing Medical University: "We have passed through this ordeal with dignity.
Yes, patients were dying. But I believe that the overall mortality from coronavirus over the past three years has been low."

This year, the Spring Festival pleased Chinese doctors with a low incidence rate. But the pandemic is not over yet. Lu Xiang believes that doctors should remain vigilant and prepare for the appearance of new coronavirus mutations.
