The country received 1 million doses of Chinese-made drugs from Sinopharm and Sinovac Biotech.

Mass vaccination of the population of Georgia against coronavirus began on Monday. Tamar Gabunia, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Health of the Republic, reported this to journalists.

“Today a mass vaccination program has begun. The electronic portal, which has been working intermittently over the past two days, is fully operational, and at this stage, citizens can freely register. As of this morning, 20,000 people have been registered for the Sinopharm vaccine,” said Tamar Gabunia, who got acquainted with the vaccination process at the Nikoloz Kipshidze Central University Clinic.

Start of mass vaccination of the population from coronavirus became possible after the republic received 1 million doses of Chinese-made vaccines from Sinopharm and Sinovac Biotech on July 2. On July 3, the registration of people for vaccinations was supposed to begin, but the site on which people were supposed to register was subjected to a cyber attack and went down. The portal launched on July 4.

In July, the country also expects another 1 million doses of Sinopharm and Sinovac Biotech vaccines and 1 million doses of Pfizer. The authorities plan to vaccinate 60% of the adult population by the end of the year in order to form herd immunity.
