Leading resort towns in Russia will receive a new status

The head of the State Duma Committee proposed to introduce the status of resort single-industry towns into the Russian Federation.

The head of the State Duma Committee on physical culture, sports, tourism and youth affairs, Boris Paykin, proposed to work out the issue of classifying Russian resort towns as single-industry towns, which would allow them to receive appropriate support.

“Currently, there are no opportunities in the legislation to provide state support measures to cities whose economic activity is dominated by sanatorium-resort activities or the provision of tourist services. And      Taganrog,        

He recalled that now such resorts are legally not single towns and cannot get the support measures that are already provided and may be introduced in the future for cities with the legal status of a single-industry city.

“I propose to jointly work on introducing the concept of a ‘resort single-industry town’, defining criteria for classifying resort cities as such single-industry towns, and forming possible support measures for them” ,   — added Paikin. According to the deputy, this will allow the development of domestic tourism not only today, but also in the perspective.
