Those with a COVID-19 vaccination certificate do not need to provide PCR test results or be tested for coronavirus upon arrival, Lao People's Democratic Republic government spokeswoman Thippakon Chanthavongsa said.

Laos completely removes all restrictions on entry into the country for foreigners, introduced in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This was announced on Saturday in Vientiane by the official representative of the government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic (LPDR) Thippakon Chanthavongsa.

According to her, the authorities of the republic agreed with the plan proposed by the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism opening the country to foreign guests. Starting from May 9, any foreign citizens will be able to enter Laos without restrictions and visit the entire territory of the Lao PDR. Those with a COVID-19 vaccination certificate do not need to provide PCR test results or be tested for coronavirus upon arrival in Laos. Those who do not have a vaccination certificate will have to undergo express testing without fail. In addition, foreigners arriving in Laos will be offered to install a local application on their smartphones to track possible contacts with COVID-19 patients during their stay in the country.

The Lao authorities attach great importance to the development of the tourism sector, since it serves as a source of significant foreign exchange earnings to the local budget. Despite the fact that Laos has no access to the sea and is deprived of conditions for a beach holiday, it offers its guests excellent opportunities for educational and ecological tourism. On the territory of the Lao PDR there are over two thousand interesting places and objects visited by tourists.
