Kabardino-Balkaria will host the Russian Freediving Championship

The championship will be held from June 8 to 12.


The strongest freedivers will perform at the deep championship of Russia from June 8 to 12 on Lake Cherek-Kel in the Cherek district in Kabardino-Balkaria, the Freediving Federation told reporters.

"From June 8 to 12, the 2022 Deep Freediving Championship of Russia will be held on Lake Cherek-Kel in Kabardino-Balkaria. This year it will be held according to the rules of the Freediving Federation and the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation," the press service said.

The championship will be attended by the strongest Russian freedivers such as the 24-time world champion, the current world record holder in freediving, the holder of a series of Guinness World records in various disciplines of deep sports Alexey Molchanov, multiple champion of Russia in the disciplines of apnea, world champion in the team competition, bronze and silver medalist of the deep World ChampionshipsAndrey Matveenko, multiple champion of Russia, world champion in the team competition, holder of the CWTB national record in 2019Evgeny Sychev, as well as the winner of the AIDA RedCCup 2018, the national record holder according to the CMAS in the CWT (82 m) and CWTBF (70 m) disciplines, a member of the Russian national team at the AIDA and CMAS championshipsOlga Markina.

As noted, this is the first championship that is held independently of international associations. "We have taken all the best international practices as a basis and created our own system for registering records, organizing competitions and developing training standards in the field of breath-holding diving. This is an absolutely special championship for us, and we are glad to welcome more than thirty athletes from all over the country," the press service quotes the words of the executive director of the federation Valeria Radchenko.

The championship will be held in a unique natural location - Lake Cherek-Kel in Kabardino-Balkaria is the second deepest freshwater body in Russia after Lake Baikal with turquoise water color, good visibility under water and incredible underwater landscapes, thanks to rocky discharges and flooded trees. The competition program includes diving in depth with a breath delay without fins (CNF), (diving in depth with a breath delay in bilasts (CWTB), diving in depth with a breath delay on a cable (FIM) and diving in depth with a breath delay in a monolast (CWT). The award ceremony will take place on June 12 in Nalchik.

The partners of the Russian Deep Freediving Championship are Capital Group, Molchanovs and the Ryazan Regional Underwater Sports Federation.
