The Irish authorities have decided to ease the restrictions imposed in the country due to COVID-19.

The Irish authorities have decided to ease a number of restrictive measures introduced in the country in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection. This was announced on Tuesday by the Prime Minister of the Republic, Mihol Martin, according to the national TV channel Art-ti-i.

According to their information, from April 12 residents of Ireland will be able to move freely within their district. Thus, the rule is canceled, according to which citizens were allowed to move only within 5 km from their home. In addition, members of the two households are allowed to meet outdoors, but social distancing and other precautions must be observed. At the same time, as the TV channel points out, from April 12, construction industry enterprises will be able to resume work.

From 26 April, children up to 18 years of age will be able to play sports outdoors again. The number of people allowed to attend funerals will increase from 10 to 25 people. The decision on further easing of restrictive measures in May, as the Irish Prime Minister specified, will be made at the end of April. Closer to the end of May, depending on the development of the epidemiological situation, the government will consider the possible resumption of the work of hotels, boarding houses and guest houses in June.

The third nationwide lockdown since the beginning of the pandemic was introduced in Ireland on December 24, 2020, amid a sharp spread of a new strain of coronavirus identified in the UK. Since then, the government has twice extended its terms - the last one expired on March 5. On February 23, the Irish Cabinet decided to maintain the strict quarantine measures until April 5. All shops are closed in the country, except for grocery and pharmacies, schools and kindergartens, construction sites, museums do not work. Citizens were ordered to limit social contacts to a narrow family circle, and free movement was allowed only within 5 km from home.
