Japanese life expectancy hits record high

Average life expectancy in Japan reached record levels last year for both men and women.


The Japanese Ministry of Health reports that in 2020, the average life expectancy for women was 87.74 years, up 0.3 years from 2019. The average life expectancy for men was 81.64 years, an increase of 0.22 years.

In the world, the life expectancy of Japanese women is second after Hong Kong, and men - third after Hong Kong and Switzerland.
