Japan pledges $300 million in loans to Iraq

Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu arrived in Iraq on Saturday. This is the first visit to the country by the head of the foreign policy department of Japan over the past 15 years. 


He said that Japan plans to provide Iraq with loans of up to about $300 million to support its reforms and economic growth.

On Saturday in Baghdad, Motegi held separate talks with the Iraqi president < b>Barham Salih, Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazimi and Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein.

Motegi vowed that Japan would continue to work with the international community to promote reform and development efforts in the country after destabilization during the Iraq War and factional conflicts. He said that Japan is committed to further developing bilateral relations in a wide range of areas.
