In Japan, a law on fines for non-compliance with measures to combat coronavirus came into force.

law imposing fines on individuals and businesses that do not follow restrictive measures against the spread of the coronavirus went into effect on Saturday in Japan. The corresponding document was supported at the beginning of the month by a majority of deputies of both chambers of the national parliament.

The new law, in particular, provides for a fine of up to 500 thousand yen (4.7 thousand dollars) for refusing hospitalization of a patient infected with coronavirus. 300 thousand yen (about 2.8 thousand dollars) will have to pay those who refuse the prescribed medical examination. A similar fine is provided for business representatives, including bars and restaurants, who do not comply with the recommendations of the authorities to stop work at one time or another.

The epidemic situation in the country began to worsen sharply since November last year, and in December, the anti-records of the daily increase in the number of people infected with coronavirus, mortality and the increase in the number of seriously ill patients began to be updated regularly. In January, the spread of the infection reached an explosive pace.

On February 2, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga extended the state of emergency, which expired on February 7, in ten prefectures of the country for another month. Among them are Tokyo, adjacent Kanagawa, Saitama and Chiba, western Osaka, Hyogo, Kyoto, central Gifu and Aichi, southwestern Fukuoka. The regime covers territories where about 70 million people live, which is more than half of the country's population. As part of the current measures, the authorities require restaurants and bars to close at 20:00 and stop selling alcohol an hour before. Citizens are also urged not to leave their homes without special need, and private businesses are encouraged to transfer up to 70% of the staff to remote work.
