Israel on Tuesday sent the first batch of emergency medical aid to fight the coronavirus to India. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Jewish state.

“The first batch of emergency medical aid sent from Israel to India,” the message says. The press service added that "from May 4, the Israeli Foreign Ministry will begin supplying medical equipment as part of India's humanitarian aid to combat the aggravation of the coronavirus epidemic." “The aid package will include thousands of group and individual oxygen generators, which are urgently needed by the Indian health system, as well as respirators, medicines and additional medical equipment,” the department noted.

The press service said that medical supplies will be delivered to India by a series of flights within a week. “At the beginning of the coronavirus crisis last year, India came to the aid of Israel, including by airlifting masks, medical gloves and raw materials for medicines into the country, and assisting in the repatriation of Israeli citizens who were in India at the time of the suspension of air traffic,”

Over the past 24 hours, Indian doctors have registered 357,229 new cases of coronavirus infection. The number of people infected during the entire period of the epidemic in the country has reached 20,282,833, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday. The number of deaths associated with coronavirus has increased by 3,449 over the past day and reached 222,408. India ranks second in the world ( after the United States) in terms of the total number of people infected with coronavirus and third in the number of deaths due to this infection (after the United States and Brazil).
