Indonesian sailors rescued by Taiwan Coast Guard

The Taiwan Coast Guard rescued 10 Indonesian sailors from a ship in distress.


The Taiwan Coast Guard on Thursday rescued 10 Indonesian sailors from a cargo ship that had crashed off the island's west coast.

Sierra Leone-flagged Fu Lin 88 hit a reef and began listing after water entered the engine room. The incident occurred 13 nautical miles off the coastline of Yunlin County.

A 500-tonne patrol ship sent to rescue evacuated 10 crew members from Indonesia. They were not injured and were taken to a quarantine center for testing for COVID-19.

According to environmental services, no fuel spill was recorded in the disaster area. What kind of cargo was transported by the ship is not specified.
