"The Government of India has sent six tons of emergency aid to Syria on an Indian Air Force plane. The cargo arrived at the Damascus airport this morning," the ministry said. Emergency medicines and medical equipment, including portable ECG machines and other essential items, have been delivered to Syria.
According to the Indian Foreign Ministry, New Delhi "has been providing humanitarian and technical assistance to Syria for the development of this country through bilateral and multilateral channels for many years." Shipments of food and medicines have already been delivered to Syria, including during the coronavirus pandemic.
An earthquake of magnitude 7.7 occurred in the province of Kahramanmaras in southeastern Turkey on Monday. Some time later, new powerful tremors were recorded. According to the latest data, more than 6.2 thousand people were killed in Turkey, more than 37 thousand were injured.
In Syria, the provinces of Aleppo, Latakia, Tartus and Hama, located in the west and northwest of the country, took the brunt of the disaster. According to the Syrian Ministry of Health, 1,250 people became victims of the disaster in the republic, more than 1,400 were injured.
