India prepares to start vaccinating its own population against coronavirus

The Indian vaccine is produced in cooperation with the European Astra Zeneca.

In India, on November 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited 3 scientific medical centers, which are preparing to start mass vaccination of the population. The head of state made an express business trip by helicopter.

He visited the Pune Serum Institute, the Bharata Biotechnical Research Center in Hyderabad, and the center of the pharmaceutical firm Zaydus Kadila in Ahmedabad.

Adar Punawalla, Executive Director of the Serum Institute of India:

"At the moment we don't have any confirmation regarding vaccination from our government. We also don't know how many doses they intend to purchase But, according to preliminary calculations, it will be necessary to produce 300-400 million syringe tubes by July 2021. So, as I said, we are now applying for permission to start vaccination in 2 weeks.

Indian biotechnologists are testing a homemade vaccine and simultaneously testing the efficacy and safety of foreign vaccines against COVID-19. The Indian vaccine is produced in cooperation with the Austrian company AstraZeneca and Oxford University.
