India launches floating vaccination stations

In the remote mangroves of the Sundarbans in the Indian state of West Bengal, there are practically no vaccination stations, and the existing ones cannot cope with the influx of people.

“Vaccination is very difficult in this rural area,” lamented Deepak Jena, a local resident. - We stood in queues in overcrowded hospitals to get an injection. And we are very happy to be able to do the vaccination on the boat.”

Last month, the Government of India launched a campaign to vaccinate all adults with a goal of reaching 950 million people by the end of the year, but the pace of the campaign has slowed due to vaccine shortages and various logistical obstacles. To date, only 8% of the target have been fully vaccinated.
