The main prize of the lottery will be an apartment worth $1.4 million.

The new $1.4 million apartment will be the grand prize of a special lottery held in Hong Kong only for fully vaccinated residents. The move is intended to encourage people to get more involved in the government's immunization program, the South China Morning Post reported on Monday.

The lottery will be sponsored by a local development company. 20 other winners will receive bank cards worth 100,000 Hong Kong dollars ($13,000).

In turn, the Hong Kong International Airport Authority has initiated a drawing of 60,000 airline tickets for its employees and residents of the city, who will receive two doses of the vaccine until the end of September. For its part, the authorities of this special administrative region of China promised civil servants two additional paid days off if they agree to be vaccinated.

The Hong Kong government is concerned about the low rate of immunization of the population, especially among young people. To date, in a metropolis with a population of 7.5 million people, 17.6% of residents have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, and 12.9% received both doses.

In particular, the authorities call for more active participation in the vaccination program purchased in Germany BioNTech's drug because it expires in September. A Chinese product from Sinovac is also available here for this purpose, but it is less popular.

Hong Kong residents have the opportunity to get the vaccine for free and choose the type themselves. In recent days, no new cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded in the metropolis.
