Hong Kong will donate 7.5 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines to the international COVAX mechanism.

The Hong Kong authorities decided to donate 7.5 million doses of vaccines previously ordered from the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca, but never delivered here, to the international distribution mechanism for coronavirus drugs COVAX.

“The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government will donate 7.5 million doses of AstraZeneca anti-virus vaccine to the COVAX mechanism,” the statement said.

The local authorities explained that the metropolis already has a total of 15 million doses of other drugs, sufficient to vaccinate the entire population. "This eliminates the need to ship 7.5 million doses of AstraZeneca's vaccine to Hong Kong," the statement said. The immunization program here uses CoronaVac & nbsp; manufactured by the Chinese company Sinovac and Comirnaty, which is purchased from the German company BioNTech and distributed with the participation of the Chinese partner Fosun Pharma.

AstraZeneca was planned as a third tool, which had a pre-order at the end of last year. However, local authorities eventually shelved plans to supply and use the drug.
