At least 50.3% of people in Japan have been vaccinated with a single dose of the novel coronavirus vaccine. This is evidenced by the statistics released on Wednesday by the Nikkei newspaper.

Meanwhile, to date, 38.8% of the country's residents have received two doses of the vaccine. Regarding the population of Japan over 65 years old, in this group, 88.5% were vaccinated with one dose of the drug, 84.7% with two.

Vaccination in Japan began in mid-February. Immunization of 4.8 million medical workers is almost completed. On April 12, the vaccination of 36 million people over 65 began in Japan, and last month Japan began immunizing people of all age groups.

Last year, Japanese authorities signed agreements with the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca, the American company -German consortium of Pfizer and BioNTech for the supply of coronavirus vaccines. All three drugs are approved for use by the Japanese Ministry of Health.
