The Jordanian Foreign Minister arrived in Syria for the first time since 2011

Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Hussein Abdullah al-Safadi arrived on Wednesday in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on a visit. This was reported by the Peter agency.
According to him, the main purpose of the visit is Jordan's expression of solidarity with Syria, which has suffered from recent earthquakes. The arrival of al-Safadi in Damascus was also confirmed by the Syrian side: the Al-Watan newspaper informed that the head of the Jordanian foreign Ministry was hosted by Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Miqdad.
In turn, Reuters noted that this visit of the Foreign Minister of the kingdom is the first since the beginning of the civil war in Syria in 2011. The main topic of the talks, the agency's source stressed, will be Jordan's assistance to earthquake victims. At the end of the visit to Damascus, al-Safadi will head to Turkey.
Earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 occurred on February 6 with an interval of 9 hours in the province of Kahramanmaras in southeastern Turkey. The tremors, followed by hundreds of aftershocks, were also felt in neighboring countries, of which Syria suffered the most. According to the Syrian Ministry of Health, the death toll in the government-controlled territory was 1,414, another 2,349 victims were taken to hospitals.
