Georgia to launch program to build and renovate schools

Georgia will allocate more than 325 million dollars for the construction and repair of 800 schools.

The government of Georgia has decided to launch a program to construct and repair 800 schools, for which 1 billion lari (more than 325 million dollars) will be spent. Prime Minister of the Republic Irakli Garibashvili stated this on Monday at a government meeting.

“Over the last 8-9 years, we built 175 schools and repaired 220, but this is not enough. <...> In total, we will have to bring in the order of 800 schools. The budget will be approximately 1 billion lari”, - said Irakli Garibashvili. He clarified that 22 schools will be completely renovated, the rest partially. In addition, this number includes 80 educational institutions that will be built from scratch.

According to the head of government, the authorities also plan to build 90 kindergartens and repair 412. The project to build and repair schools and kindergartens will last three years .
