Sputnik V is the third vaccine to be used in this country.

The first batch of the Russian coronavirus vaccine Sputnik V arrived in India on Saturday. According to corr. TASS, the drug has been delivered to the Hyderabad airport, the consignor is the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), which oversees this project.

Sputnik V has become the third vaccine to be used in India. So far, only two drugs have been used in immunization there: Covishield (Covishild), developed by the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca (AstraZeneca) and the University of Oxford, as well as Covaxin (Covaxin) from the Indian company Bharat Biotech (Bharat Biotek ).

Indian pharmaceutical company Dr. Reddy's Laboratories (DRL, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories) filed in February for a permit for limited use of Sputnik V in India. She was approved in April. This company is ready to distribute the Russian vaccine. RDIF has also agreed to manufacture the drug with several companies in India itself.

As Ambassador to Moscow Bala Venkatesh Varma said earlier this week, New Delhi expects that about 150- 200 thousand doses of Sputnik V, by the end of the month - about 3 million, and in June - 5 million doses.

The Russian drug was delivered to India on the day when a new stage of the national vaccination campaign is to begin during which all citizens who have reached the age of 18 will be allowed to be vaccinated. Until May 1, only those over 45 were vaccinated. However, the authorities of a number of states have stated that the process of immunizing people in the age group from 18 to 44 years will begin as soon as a sufficient number of drugs are received, which are still in short supply.

Russia was the first in the world on August 11, 2020 to register a vaccine against coronavirus, which was named "Sputnik V". It was developed by the N. F. Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology. The drug is already registered in many countries.
