Exhibition "Stalingrad 1942-1943" opens in Beijing

The exhibition "Stalingrad 1942-1943" opened at the War Memorial Museum in Beijing.


The Memorial Museum of the War of Resistance of the Chinese People of Japan, together with the Museum-Reserve "Battle of Stalingrad", opened an exhibition "Stalingrad 1942-1943" in the Chinese capital on Friday, dedicated to the heroic struggle of the Soviet people against the fascist occupation. The opening ceremony was attended by Russian Ambassador to China Andrey Denisov.

“The Battle of Stalingrad played a crucial role in the history of the Great Patriotic War and had a decisive influence on the outcome of World War II,” said the head diplomatic mission of Russia in Beijing, speaking to representatives of the Chinese public and the local Russian diaspora. As he emphasized, the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad allowed the Soviet Union "to seize the strategic initiative and hold it until the complete defeat of Nazi Germany."

Director of the Stalingrad Battle Museum-Reserve Aleksey Dementiev also addressed the participants of the opening ceremony with a video message. He recalled that the battles near Stalingrad "became a turning point in the entire history of mankind" and "were the highest example of heroism and self-sacrifice of Soviet soldiers."

Among the exhibits presented are cultural relics, numerous photographs and posters dedicated to the heroic events of that time. Part of the exposition is devoted to Russian-Chinese relations and top-level contacts between the two countries.

The exhibition tells about one of the most important battles of the Great Patriotic War. The Battle of Stalingrad lasted 200 days and nights, took place on the territory of modern Volgograd, Rostov, Voronezh regions, the Republic of Kalmykia. 2 million people from both sides took part in the battle on the Volga, 2 thousand tanks and 2 thousand aircraft were involved. The modern hero city of Volgograd symbolizes the revival and victory over fascism.
