Crews of the Baikal Mile Grand Tour left Moscow for Baikal

The teams participating in the grand tour "Baikal Mile - 2022. Places of Power" set off from Poklonnaya Gora in Moscow to Lake Baikal, a TASS correspondent reports.

The festival of speed begins on the ice of Lake Baikal on March 9. At the same time, crews on self-assembled vehicles will mainly take part in it. The results of the Grand Tour will be judged by a jury, among whose members is the traveler Fyodor Konyukhov and the athlete Vyacheslav Fetisov. The chairman of the jury of the festival is the head of the Federal Tourism Agency Zarina Doguzova.

According to her, the activities of the "Baikal Mile" are aimed at preserving the environment in the region. They also allow to increase investment interest in the republic. “It is the Baikal Mile that shows how events should be carried out on the cleanest ice of Lake Baikal without harming the environment, but with maximum benefit for the local population, because the economy of the area is involved, accommodation facilities are called in, there is an investment interest in the region. And in this regard, it is such events as the "Baikal Mile" should and already now show how to treat the environment, with what technical regulations, requirements, control over all this," Badmatsyrenova explained.

During their trip, 14 teams will shoot videos that will be judged by the jury. "I want to wish you good luck, a safe and interesting road, good views, wonderful impressions and I promise you fair refereeing. We will carefully monitor you, look at all the material. We have a fairly creative team that will appreciate everything," said the jury member , actor Vladimir Yaglych.

A separate mission of the teams will be participation in the final stage of the expedition "Bow to the ships of the Great Victory". Participants will deliver cartridge cases with soil from the place where sunken ships and submarines were found in the Baltic Sea to relatives of those who died during the Great Patriotic War. During the start of the road trip, the FSK team was given a capsule with soil to be delivered to a relative of one of those who died on board the BT-501 Balkhash ship in 1941.

About the grand tour

Last year, due to restrictive measures, two formats of events were held separately. In 2022, the event will change its format: the festival and the Baikal Mile grand tour will merge. Last year, in two weeks, the participants covered more than 6,000 km and completed special route tasks during the trip. This year, on February 20, the crews of the grand tour will start from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Vladivostok to Baikal along the route obtained by the results of the draw.

The main idea of the Baikal Mile festival is to set speed records on various types of equipment on ice the deepest lake on the planet. In March 2021, the event was held with a limited number of participants and spectators due to the pandemic, a motor rally-grand tour was held for 13 crews, which started on February 19 from St. miles (200 m) and 1 mile.
