The number of COVID-19 vaccines given in China rose by 19.3% in a week to 763 million.

The total number of coronavirus vaccinations made in China over the past seven days increased by 19.3%, exceeding 763 million, the State Committee for Hygiene and Health of China announced on Sunday.

Over the past day, according to the agency, the country's authorities provided vaccination for 18.5 million people. Thus, in just 24 hours, the number of covid vaccinations in China increased by 2.5%.

According to China's leading epidemiologist Zhong Nanshan, by July, vaccination coverage in the country should reach 40%, and by the end of the year can reach 80%. According to the expert, by the beginning of 2022, the population of China will develop herd immunity. Previously, the authorities reported that gradually coronavirus vaccines could become available to special categories of the population who cannot yet be vaccinated against covid, in particular, for children and adolescents.

In China, a good epidemiological situation remains, with the exception of cities of Guangzhou and Foshan in Guangdong province in the south of the country, where authorities have identified approximately 120 local cases of infection (including asymptomatic carriers) over the past 15 days. There are 10 residential areas in the territory of which increased response measures are in place, in particular, public transport has been suspended and mandatory certificates of passing a coronavirus test have been introduced in case of leaving the territory of the settlement.
