China has no domestic cases of coronavirus

The country recorded 21 new cases of infection, all infected came from abroad.

For the first time since July 20, the Chinese authorities have not recorded a single case of coronavirus infection in the country. This is stated in a statement released on Monday by the State Committee for Hygiene and Health of the People's Republic of China.

As specified in the document, 21 new cases of infection were recorded over the past day, all infected arrived from abroad. Five cases have been identified in Guangdong, four in Shanghai, three each in Tianjin and Yunnan, two in Beijing, and one each in Shanxi, Zhejiang, Henan and Sichuan.

Currently 1,695 patients are being treated in Chinese medical institutions, of which 23 are in serious condition. Since the beginning of the pandemic in China, a total of more than 94.6 thousand cases of infection have been detected, more than 4.6 thousand people have died, more than 88.3 thousand have recovered.

On July 20, domestic cases of coronavirus infection were detected in the Chinese city of Nanjing (eastern Jiangsu province). Then the outbreak spread to a number of other regions of China. In total, more than 1.2 thousand cases of infection were detected in the country during the month, none of the cases died.

On December 15, vaccination of priority population groups began in China. So far, four Chinese-made vaccines have been approved for the domestic market, and three more drugs have received emergency use approval. More than 1.94 billion vaccines had been given in the country as of Monday.

In June, Chinese epidemiologist Shao Yiming said that 80-85% of the population would need to be fully vaccinated to develop herd immunity — over 1 billion people. China's population is 1.41 billion. According to Chinese epidemiologist, Academician Zhong Nanshan, China will achieve this goal by the end of this year.
