China donates COVID-19 vaccine to Azerbaijan

The Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan hosted a ceremony of signing an act on the donation of 150,000 doses of CoronaVac vaccine by China to Azerbaijan.


China donated 150,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine to Azerbaijan free of charge. This was reported on Tuesday by the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the act on the delivery and taking of drugs was signed by the Chinese Ambassador to Baku Guo Minand the Deputy Minister of Health of Azerbaijan Victor Qasimov. The head of the Chinese diplomatic mission said that her country and Azerbaijan actively support each other at the bilateral and multilateral levels in the fight against the pandemic.

As the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan clarified earlier, CoronaVac vaccines were donated to the Chinese company Sinovac Biotech (“Sinovac Biotek”).

Vaccination of the population against coronavirus in Azerbaijan started on January 18. The CoronaVac vaccine is currently used to immunize the population. Azerbaijan has signed a contract to purchase a total of 9 million doses of this drug. Delivery of 4 million of them is carried out from Turkey.

According to the operational headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers of the republic, more than 1.4 million, or 14% of the citizens of the republic, have already been vaccinated.
