Beijing begins testing another 16.5 million residents for coronavirus


The authorities of the Chinese capital on Tuesday began testing residents of 11 more districts of the city for coronavirus, the total population of which is about 16.5 million people. This was reported by the Beijing Daily.

On Monday, authorities began testing in the largest district of Chaoyang, which has a population of about 3.5 million people. Citizens who live or work in Chaoyang must take three PCR tests on April 25, 27 and 29.

As of Monday evening, at least 70 cases of infection have been detected in eight districts of the city, and therefore The authorities decided to test residents of 11 more districts, including central Dongcheng, Xicheng and others. Citizens living there must pass three tests on April 26, 28 and 30.

There are 16 districts and two counties in Beijing. The metropolis has a population of 21.9 million.

Pang Xingho, deputy head of the Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said on Saturday that the current wave of disease has been spreading in the city in a latent form at least about a week. According to her, the infected belong to different social groups and fields of activity. The deputy head of the center also warned that the authorities expect an increase in the number of new infections.
